Often, we are overwhelmed by a sense of insignificance. We feel a sense of complete uselessness believing “I am just one ― and what can just one do?” Throughout Scripture, we find example after example of the power of one. Today, I want to look at some of those examples.

#1. One little Boy - instrumental in feeding 5000 (Availability)

John 6:9-13 Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many? The first element necessary to glorify God in sharing Him to others, is availability. Even the most gifted and talented Christian in the world is of no use to God if he is not available to God. Faithful service to God always starts with simply being available to God. I remember a speaker at one of the chapel services where I went to seminary. Having being introduced as our main Missions Conference speaker for the week, he asked us to pray with him. We all bowed in prayer, and after a long pause, he prayed, “Dear Lord, I will do anything you want me to do. I will go anywhere you want me to go ― but, please Lord, don’t send me to Africa. Amen!” I tell you that man got our attention! You see, he was illustrating the point that too many Christians place conditions upon their availability to God. And as soon as you place conditions upon your availability to God, you become useless to Him. People who are not available to God for service will never fully know God’s purpose for their lives. It is not based on one’s ability but one’s availability.

#2. One Woman was instrumental in saving a nation (Courage/Boldness)

Esther 4:14-16 There’s a lot of people who talk about doing good, and a lot of people who argue about what’s good and what’s not good, but there are folks who just put their lives on the line for what's right. As Christians we know what is right and it takes boldness to live lives that are right. The third thing is...

#3. One Man -instrumental in saving mankind from extinction (Faith)

Hebrews 11:7 “By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.” Too often we try to use God to change our circumstances, while He is using our circumstances to change us. Faith enables us to understand what God does. Faith enables us to see what others cannot see. As a result, faith enables us to do what others cannot do. Today I asked, “Am I On My Own?” Often, we feel we have nothing to offer but we saw three examples how God can use us, no matter how small we feel. We are not alone when it comes to God. If we make ourselves available, are courageous and have faith, God can do mighty things. We are NOT alone!
